Rapid growth in passenger numbers and a strong trend towards unbundling, i.e. the separate sale of services previously included in the ticket price, have led to a drastic increase in the administrative burden and increased the number of potential error sources for airlines. These
errors are often related to manual handling of passenger data from different sources in disparate formats. One way of overcoming these problems has been to introduce systems for intelligent seating, where passengers also benefit from the opportunity to book their seating online. A seating system not only leads to greater passenger satisfaction as they experience greater freedom of choice, it also creates important new revenue sources with opportunities to launch supplementary enhanced services (ancillaries) to be marketed in conjunction with online seat reservation.
